My new truck:
1962 Chevy C-Series stepside pickup truck.
The engine isn't original. It's one of the ubiquitous small block Chevy V-8's (350 cubic inch displacement).
BIG...
I bought it on Friday. Total cost (including TT&L) was less than $1,000.
What I've done so far (with help from Candice):
* Clean up the cab
* Give it a bath
* Install 2 lap belts
* Change oil, oil filter
* Change air filter
What I plan on doing sometime in the future:
Steering:
* Install 60's era steering wheel
* Install rack and pinion steering
Fuel:
* Repair gas leak
* Move gas tank underneath bed (right now, the gas tank is right behind the bench seat!)
Electrical:
* Redo all electronic lines
* Get all lights working
Other projects are on the list (including lots of body work), that's just some of the big things I can think of now. I'll give updates as I work on it. Should be fun and a great learning experience! My goal is to restore the truck to what it looked like in '62, but with a few improvements in safety, performance, and comfort.
UPDATE- My favorite photo:
Tres cool! From the Stinkin Linkin to the Levee Chevy. Check this guy's refurb job, too:

Ahhh, old trucks...
There's lots of work to do. I'm sure I'll be devoting a lot of time to that truck...
ReplyDeleteA few things y'all might be able to help me out with:
* I'm still looking for a name. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
* I'm debating between a few different color schemes: red and chrome, green (lower body) and white (white cab and trim), and flat black with red LED's illuminating the headlights (like it's possessed).
* I need some CHEAP parts. I'm on the lookout for a steering wheel and a rear bumper. Keep your eyes peeled for them.
Just call it Don McLean...or American Pie, though there might be associations with those frickin' movies with the latter name...
ReplyDeleteThat truck is gonna be fierce one day!
ReplyDeleteThat is, without a doubt, the coolest truck ever, even without restoration. I like the red and chrome idea. I'd probably call it Fred Sanford or Lamont, as it reminds me of the red truck in Sanford and Son, ignoring the fact that theirs was a Ford.
